Our spay and neuter initiative in the Small Cyclades was completed with our team's second visit to Koufonisia, Schinoussa, and Iraklia.
Returning to the area just two months after our initial visit helped ensure that the population of previously recorded animals remained stable, while allowing younger kittens that were too small to be sterilized in November to be included in the program.
By repeating the initiative within such a short period, we aimed to address any outstanding cases that could otherwise lead to uncontrolled population growth within the cat colonies.
Local volunteers, working in cooperation with the municipality, can now focus their efforts on the small number of animals that remain.
Over the course of three days, our six-member team, including two veterinarians, and with the valuable assistance of volunteers from the islands, carried out 192 spay and neuter procedures, bringing the total number of cats sterilized throughout our Small Cyclades initiative to 434.
Spaying and neutering represent one of the greatest acts of responsibility towards animals that never chose to be born into lives marked by hunger, insecurity, and hardship.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers and everyone who contributed to making this initiative possible, as well as to @royalcaninhellas, whose continued support through the provision of pet food plays an important role in our spay and neuter programs.
